Secretary's report

The 2025 season proceeded smoothly, with organisation now coordinated entirely via the club WhatsApp group. We played 35 matches, including two internal games; of the 33 completed external matches we won and lost 16, with one tie, a "perfect" 50% record. There was just one cancellation.

The good results were in part due to the successful recruitment of a number of strong players - although we've lost at least as many comparably strong players over the winter due to people leaving Cambridge, so please be active in trying to recruit new players, particularly juniors - we have a rather, er, "experience-heavy" demographic at the moment.

This year's fixture list is largely complete, with the internal Remnants vs. Remnants game to be on Wednesday, June 24. This includes some genuinely new opposition sides, such as Madingley Mulch, along with some sides we haven't played for a long time, such as St Barnabas Church and Zoology. Thanks to Simon Godsill's membership of Corpus Christi College we once again will be able to play at Leckhampton on the Wednesdays on which Fitz is given over to the Cambridgeshre Over 50s.

The treasurer's report

Treasurer Joe White provided a report based primarily on the statements from the club's bank account. We operated at a small profit of £686.52 over the year (albeit with website fees possibly not included) with a closing balance of £2,786.33. We played more games, including a few at Leckhampton at no cost, and also charged the correct match fees (unlike last year) and hence are in a healthy financial position. We also donated £582.00 to charities, most of which (£425.00) came from direct donations. That said, the fact that Fitzwilliam College invoices us for match fees twice a year now means that the balance did go close to zero at one point, something we will need to be careful about. There were a few late payments from some players and opposition clubs, but overall this was better than in previous years with just one player still to be chased.

Dave Norman reported (in absentia) that Fitzwilliam College's ground hire fee will remain at £80.00 (including VAT) for evening games, although there is a change in policy that the full fee will be charged even for games which could not be completed. Individual match fees will hence remain at £7.00 for adults and £3.50 for juniors, and the charge to visiting teams will simiarly remain at £50.00. (including a match ball).

Club welfare officer's report

Tom Serby had no issues to report, but James Robinson shared the new guidance from the ECB regarding player safety regarding safety requirements for (particularly) junior players fielding close to the bat or wicket-keeping up to the stumps, although it's actually standard to keep young players away from close fielding positions so this shouldn't require a change in approach. One new recommendation is having neck-guards on helmets, so we will purchase a helmet with this feature.
