Remnants vs. Cambridge Centaurs

18:00, Tuesday, May 19, 2026
Fitzwilliam College

Remnants (104/6 in 15 eight-ball overs)
lost to
Cambridge Centaurs (107/5 in 14.2 eight-ball overs)
by 5 wickets.

Report by Tom Serby:

This evening we came up against the Centaurs, the mid-week Cambourne outfit featuring Temoor Khan and Quaiser Ahmed of Remnants repute, and assorted youngsters.

Skipper James Robinson (17 off 20 balls) opened the batting with Lahiru Wijedasa (8 off 18 balls) and a solid base was set. The middle order of John Young, Trishant Simlai and Tom Serby failed to up the run rate by much - actually a deceleration - and it was left to James Cummins (30* retired off 27 balls) and Hugh Myers (16* off 13 balls) to set a below par, but still potentially challenging, target of 105.

In the field Hugh somewhat fed the Centaurs' openers' preference for fast shortish balls to smack through the off and it was clearly going to be an immense challenge to pull off a win. The melange of aggressive middle age and youthful but not so threatening in the power stakes in the Centaurs' order, did allow for sporadic hope in Remnants' hearts particularly when Tim Simmance (2/20 off 3 overs) got his dibbly dobbly medium jive going. But with the fall of a wicket of a young innocuous Centaur invariably bringing to the wicket more "crash, bang, wallop", it was something of a moral victory to take the game to the very end of the penultimate over before the inevitable Centaurs win.
