[06/08/2026, 10:25:19] Daniel Mortlock: I'll be away - hot date with a total solar eclipse - so will need captains/contacts for Wednesday: Qaiser Ahmed or Seb Hammersley?
[06/08/2026, 11:54:52] Daniel Mortlock: Teams up for next week's games with James Robinson and Qaiser Ahmed as captains/contacts. Lots of availability, so I've made both teams twelves; I think everyone who marked themselves as available has one game; all the reserves are either playing the other game or listed as "maybe (or both).
[06/08/2026, 11:58:35] Stephen Doel: It was pretty / very dark by the end yesterday. When do we switch to earlier start times?
[06/08/2026, 11:58:44] Lahiru Wijedasa: thanks again daniel, will play on Wed for sure. Seems like Tues is full. I think i made 45* against fen ditton last season. Its the match Cam Petrie took that amazing catch backtracking on the long on boundary
[06/08/2026, 12:06:54] Daniel Mortlock: Yes, this definitely didn't go right yesterday - although the problem was that the first innings somehow took over 1.5 hours and we didn't start bowling 'til 7:40pm. At any rate, I'm e-mailing the opposition organisers to suggest at 17:45 start for next week's games and also a reduced format (e.g., 14x8s).
[06/08/2026, 12:07:18] Neil Grover: Sadly winter is coming as they say
[06/08/2026, 12:09:10] Daniel Mortlock: Already one drop-out for Tuesday(!) so Trishant Simlai you've confirmed so now are in the side.
[06/08/2026, 12:10:03] Lahiru Wijedasa: pink ball too atleast for the second innings?
[06/08/2026, 12:11:10] Daniel Mortlock: Joe White: Do you know whether we have new pink balls at the ground? (We switched to an old pink ball late yesterday and it was actually very easy to see even close to 9pm.)
[06/08/2026, 12:12:19] Lahiru Wijedasa: the red ball is hard to see in the field in the afternoon when fielding too. even with the sun behind me, needed fielders to tell me it was coming
[06/08/2026, 12:15:38] Cam Petrie: Id marked myself as unavailable for Weds but that was on the assumption that I was playing for Trinity so Ill be free if needed
[06/08/2026, 12:19:48] Daniel Mortlock: Just add yourself on Pitchero - previous experience (e.g., Temoor Khan's apologetic phone call at 6pm yesterday) suggests every chance a spot would open up.
[06/08/2026, 14:06:04] Joe White: Not at the moment but I'll try and get some for next week.
[06/08/2026, 14:08:45] Daniel Mortlock: That would be very useful, thanks.
[08/08/2026, 22:43:08] Daniel Mortlock: There is a possibility we mightn't be able to play on Wednesday due to the partial Solar eclipse. Will update when I have more info.
[08/08/2026, 22:44:52] Qaiser Ahmed: Oh, that is some excuse other than rain to stop the game
[08/08/2026, 22:46:39] James Robinson: Only seems apropos for an astronomy adjacent club
[09/08/2026, 07:09:06] Daniel Mortlock: Have done a bit more checking on this and I think were okay to play through the eclipse. Maybe try to arrange the innings break so people can enjoy the maximum coverage at about 7pm.
[09/08/2026, 09:02:02] Ev: Thats so cool
[09/08/2026, 11:41:36] Daniel Mortlock: Take some photos!
[10/08/2026, 22:43:36] Lahiru Wijedasa: Pulled a muscle today. Sorry have to sit out this week
[10/08/2026, 23:10:57] James Robinson: sorry to hear that Lahiru, Marcus you are first reserve for Weds though Kanwar Nain Singh is also available if you don't fancy 2 straight games
[10/08/2026, 23:56:16] Marcus: I'll take second reserve behind Kanwar Nain Singh if he's happy with that
[11/08/2026, 09:13:20] Kanwar Nain Singh: Yes, I'll be happy to join
[12/08/2026, 10:27:12] Cam Petrie: Do we have eleven happy campers for today? (Subtext - am I needed or can/should I make other plans?)
[12/08/2026, 11:07:07] Qaiser Ahmed: Don't make any plans, you might be needed
[12/08/2026, 11:07:21] Qaiser Ahmed: Its not happened, until its happened
[12/08/2026, 11:20:53] James Robinson: I believe 12 confirmed again 1745 at Fitz . 1. Cam, 2. Kanwar, 3. Q, 4. Francois, 5. Faruk, 6. John m, 7. Seb, 8. Quentin , 9. John y, 10. Neil , 11. Simon, 12. Naveen
[12/08/2026, 11:44:07] Sumit Sahai: What's the eclipse impact? Not sure how long it is supposed to last, and do we stop playing for a while?
[12/08/2026, 12:00:36] Lahiru Wijedasa: Sometimes when johns bowling, does feel like an eclipse.
[12/08/2026, 12:07:12] Lahiru Wijedasa: ok, sometimes when you bowl too Sumit Sahai
[12/08/2026, 12:07:27] Sumit Sahai: Have you tried removing your eclipse glasses while batting?
[12/08/2026, 12:07:57] Lahiru Wijedasa: somehow, my brain cells dont function when you bowl. think can blame it on the aztecs.
[12/08/2026, 12:08:15] Daniel Mortlock: Should be okay to play through. But the maximum coverage is well timed for the innings break.
[12/08/2026, 12:10:55] Phil Watson: However during a long winters retreat he was dismissed dead
[12/08/2026, 12:14:48] Sumit Sahai: What do players do if they have to catch a skier with the sun behind it...I suppose tonight some of us will have a good excuse for any drops...
[12/08/2026, 12:17:12] Phil Watson: To be fair, everyone is surprised when some Remnants hold onto a catch. So an eclipse is irrelevant
[12/08/2026, 12:35:44] John Moore: Id love to hear an explanation of the maths behind that from a fellow Remnant (preferably one with a solid understanding of Astro physics)
[12/08/2026, 13:38:22] Cam Petrie: Ok But on the list Pitchero I am number 12, so was assuming that Im not playing until someone else drops out
[12/08/2026, 13:40:12] James Robinson: We have played with 12 deliberately lately but you can defo drop out if you need to
[12/08/2026, 13:40:30] Cam Petrie: I dont want to drop out . . .
[12/08/2026, 13:40:36] Cam Petrie: Ill gear up and turn up
[12/08/2026, 15:25:30] Daniel Mortlock: The Dirty Dozen.
[12/08/2026, 15:50:12] John Moore: one of my favourite films , so ridiculous that its brilliant
[12/08/2026, 15:56:24] Cam Petrie: Let off some steam Bennett
[12/08/2026, 16:06:52] John Moore: thats the line - quality
[12/08/2026, 17:22:05] Daniel Mortlock: If it bleeds we can kill it!
[12/08/2026, 17:23:28] James Robinson: comon Daniel, thats Predator
[12/08/2026, 17:40:44] Daniel Mortlock: Was this from Commando?
[12/08/2026, 17:42:09] Simon Godsill: Will people be bringing eclipse-friendly glasses along? Or do real macho astronomers not bother with those
[12/08/2026, 17:50:11] Qaiser Ahmed: Neil Grover I take you are om to keep today?
[12/08/2026, 17:58:45] Neil Grover: Happy to if needed
[12/08/2026, 18:06:15] Kanwar Nain Singh: Am I playing today? Pitchero shows 12 already?
[12/08/2026, 18:12:12] Kanwar Nain Singh: I see I'm there
[12/08/2026, 18:26:47] Cam Petrie: Or you can play
[12/08/2026, 18:30:34] Faruk Kara: Let's play 12 with a rotating player
[12/08/2026, 18:32:43] John Moore: Running 5 minutes w
[12/08/2026, 18:32:51] John Moore: Late
[12/08/2026, 20:36:50] Marcus: I think Fen Drayton is on a different orbit. I honestly haven't noticed anything
[12/08/2026, 20:55:55] PGB: in Derbyshire but still a stifling 29 degrees!
[12/08/2026, 21:04:07] Qaiser Ahmed: Sadly, we lost.
[12/08/2026, 21:05:22] Lahiru Wijedasa: Think they stopped scoring towards rhe end ans just used the tablet tho
[12/08/2026, 21:06:27] Stephen Doel: Did you stop for the eclipse?
[12/08/2026, 21:29:16] Neil Grover: Sadly I just miss out on the fastest Innings board!
[12/08/2026, 21:52:01] James Robinson: I was wondering if there was a different N Grover !?
[12/08/2026, 21:52:39] Neil Grover: Thats my new twitter pic there
[12/08/2026, 22:14:12] Lahiru Wijedasa: Also remember johns innings
[12/08/2026, 22:14:13] Cam Petrie: Neil was a man possessed. Retired on 30 off 17 balls. He and John Young took a bowler for 24 off one over
[12/08/2026, 22:14:27] Cam Petrie: We decided that it was the eclipse effect in play
[12/08/2026, 22:15:19] Lahiru Wijedasa: Yeah, explains the absent long barrier
[12/08/2026, 22:36:48] Daniel Mortlock: Tis truly the end of days.
[12/08/2026, 22:38:21] Neil Grover: Done me filthy there! 2 dots after I retired!
[12/08/2026, 22:38:21] Daniel Mortlock: We were playing Madingley?!?
[12/08/2026, 22:39:30] Cam Petrie: There was a bit of confusion in the scorebox
[12/08/2026, 22:39:57] Qaiser Ahmed: Well, that is what they said, as tec doesn't have insurance, so they merged with madingley and now they are Madingley
[12/08/2026, 22:40:16] Qaiser Ahmed: Even on play cricket it said madingley.
[12/08/2026, 22:41:58] Daniel Mortlock: Neil Grover: Were those two dots actually faced by Quentin?
[12/08/2026, 22:42:18] Qaiser Ahmed: Runout was by Naveen, direct hit
[12/08/2026, 22:43:25] Neil Grover: Presumably yes?
[12/08/2026, 22:44:54] Qaiser Ahmed: I must say, they were quite a strong batting side.
[12/08/2026, 22:45:36] Lahiru Wijedasa: I'd say they were a very patient batting side
[12/08/2026, 22:48:07] Cam Petrie: Prob yes. There was some delay with retiring Neil on PC. Neither the book nor PC are totally accurate
[12/08/2026, 23:57:02] Daniel Mortlock: Any pointers/corrections appreciated - if they're not sorted now they'll be wrong forever.
[13/08/2026, 00:01:44] Daniel Mortlock: Did we have 11 or 12 this evening? (Id thought 12, but only count 11 on the scoresheet.)
[13/08/2026, 00:04:38] Neil Grover: Kanwar Nain Singh appeared for a bit but didnt field
[13/08/2026, 00:06:35] Daniel Mortlock: Er, so didn't bat, bowl or field? The ultimate TFC?
[13/08/2026, 00:06:48] Neil Grover: Quite possibly
[13/08/2026, 00:18:56] John Moore: He did pad up
[13/08/2026, 00:21:01] Cam Petrie: Yes he padded up but didnt bat and then left
[13/08/2026, 00:21:31] Cam Petrie: There were differences in the number of runs scored overall
[13/08/2026, 00:21:43] Cam Petrie: I felt the book was more correct but there were balls missing
[13/08/2026, 00:41:27] Cam Petrie: There was an over where the umpired agreed there were eight balls and the scorers scored six
[13/08/2026, 08:55:36] Simon Godsill: Yes that was weird. Mass hallucination on the pitch??
[13/08/2026, 09:01:12] Sumit Sahai: Some confusion on the retirement score despite the agreement to retire at 25. Remnants batsmen seems to have retired at 30, while Madingley stuck to 25 in their innings.
[13/08/2026, 09:04:12] Cam Petrie: Yes accidents in remnants innings and then Maddingley sticking to the original plan
[13/08/2026, 09:05:42] Cam Petrie: Given that Maddingley got to 65 in about five overs the lower retirement score didnt hurt
[13/08/2026, 09:07:21] Sumit Sahai: certainly hurt my averages
[13/08/2026, 09:07:43] Cam Petrie: Whaaat???
[13/08/2026, 09:08:34] Sumit Sahai: well, if th 2 retirees had score 5 runs more each, I wouldn't have needed to bat and fail to score
[13/08/2026, 09:08:52] Cam Petrie: But you got three wickets?!??
[13/08/2026, 09:09:38] Cam Petrie: Also the chasing total was supposed to be 124, but Madingley won scoring 123, so technically Remnants won because Maddingley walked off early
[13/08/2026, 09:13:03] Sumit Sahai: shades of SA's exit from 2003 World Cup when they used the DRS par score as the DRS target and ended up not winning? To be fair, the app said Remnants made 122. in the last 2 overs I think we were only doing the app, not the book due to a shortage of scorers
[13/08/2026, 09:17:30] Cam Petrie: There were lots of inconsistencies across the app and scorebook in the remnants innings (and it looks like Maddingley completely gave up on the doing the book with any coherence)
[13/08/2026, 09:19:28] Sumit Sahai: Thankfully got something to take away from the game other than an eclipse (of batting judgement). According to some sharp observers, my last ball stumping deserved to be called a no-ball as the keeper collected in front of the stumps ...but I think it is bad form to argue with the umpires especially when you're benefitting
[13/08/2026, 10:58:24] Daniel Mortlock: I've taken the numbers from the app scores as they're more complete - but if there are any corrections (other than the two balls at the end of Neil's innings) please let me know.
[13/08/2026, 11:06:36] Cam Petrie: The batsman run totals should all be correct on the sheet. Naveen and I found an error but couldnt work out where to correct it on the app
[13/08/2026, 11:07:38] Cam Petrie: I think Neils two balls were added to cover for the two balls that the scorers didnt see during that period So there were two balls bowled but what happened and who faced was a mystery
[13/08/2026, 11:08:34] Neil Grover: Cooking the books so as to not shock the audience with my prowess I hear you
[13/08/2026, 12:55:21] Cam Petrie: Ive seen things you people wouldn't believe. Neil smashing straight drives for four. Hitting a lap shot over his shoulder and running three. John Young hitting a four through cow. 24 runs off an over. All these memories will be kept for ever . . . on the Remnants match report
