Report by Daniel Mortlock:
In recent seasons NCI have repeatedly snatched "fixtury" from the jaws of cancellation, providing us with instant opposition after other sides have been unable to get a team out. So it was decidedly surprising that they were unable to get a team out (or, more precisely, a second team out, given that they also had an evening league fixture scheduled for this evening). After various attempts to find a solution we reluctantly sent out "match cancelled" messages . . .
. . . only for a possible replacement opposition to pop up in the form of Telugu Association of Cambridge (TAC). Unfortunately it was too late: our players had started to make other plans and there was too much danger of us not being able to field a team. The one bright spot is that we do have ourselves a new opposition: we'll be ending our season of evening games with a match against TAC on August 26.
There was some hope that it would rain on match day to the degree that the ground would have been unplayable - it was universally agreed that this would somehow feel less annoying, despite the end result (a cancellation) being the same - but by 6pm conditions were glorious.
