Five months ago, when we organised this match, we had no way of knowing that England's football World Cup round of 32 knock-out match would be scheduled for kick-off at 5pm (BST) today. It's hence perhaps expected that it was going to be a struggle to find players: we had eight confirmed and three "maybe"; and Grantchester could find just four players. With Fitz booked for an Over 50s game we didn't even have the option of pestering NCI or St Giles to put out a side, so there was nothing for it but to find a pub showing the football . . .
