We'd organised a rare afternoon game against the intriguingly-named Far From The MCC and were looking forward to finding out if they had anything in common with their more famous namesake . . . or at least three of us were: only Andrew Granville, Ev Fox and Tom Davidson had signed up on the Doodle poll. This was obviously a problem, and none of the usual potential solutions (i.e., e-mailing people with big pools of players seemingly at their fingertips) worked.
Fortunately, Far From The MCC were able to organise an alternative fixture against Reach, so at least their tour wasn't wrecked . . . but for us it's probably a lesson that we just can't get out teams on mid-season weekends.
