Match cancelled.

Report by Daniel Mortlock:

Today's match against the CB XI was cancelled not once, but twice, which is believed to be a new Remnants record.

The first sign of problems came in the form of an e-mail last week stating that the CB XI was "going to have to cancel our game" to play a previously abandoned league match. Despite the fact that this has happened before - Mott-MacDonald cancelled for the same reason back in '09 - it remains unclear why clubs think it's legitimate to override a prior commitment in this way. But before we could start searching for alternative opposition a second e-mail came in stating that there'd been some sort of communications error and that the match could go ahead.

The days leading up to the match passed uneventfully - unless you count the minor miracle of a comfortable Remnants victory last night.

Then, this morning, the match was re-cancelled, this time due to a lack of players (possibly induced by the fact that they were mainly opting to play the rescheduled league game tomorrow evening).

If we counted cancellations as forfeits then our season's ledger would be decidedly healthy - and we'd have a 2-1 record against The CB XI! - but sadly they count only as sources of frustration, and once again eleven able-bodied young men - well, young men . . . well, men- oh forget it - were left with nothing better to do than re-watch highlights of the 2005 Ashes.
