Remnants vs. Cambridge Granta

Clare College

Cambridge Granta (173/5 in 20 6-ball overs)
defeated
Remnants (70/8 in 20 6-ball overs)
by 103 runs.

Cambridge Granta slaughtered Remnants today, inflicting the heaviest runs defeat we've ever suffered (tied with our thrashing by The Globe back in 2005). Their batsmen put our bowling to the sword, with none of the bowlers conceding less than a run a ball, and only George Speller (2/22) coming away with even a hint of respectibility. And then things got worse, as we managed to score at the princely rate of just 3.5 an over when it was our turn to bat. Mike Sneyd and George Speller (both 15) were the only batsmen to make more than 7, and in the end we were the small matter of 103 runs short of Granta's total. As the match drew to its exciting conclusion their players were reduced to playing "stump cricket" between themselves for amusement between while waiting for the incoming batsmen to make the long walk from the pavilion - although Geoff soon put an end to that when he confiscated the ball (and rightly so).
